My Favorite Television Commercial

Commercials have influenced us in many ways. They have increased our knowledge on things especially on the information side. Different kinds of commercials offer different kinds of values. Take the Safeguard commercial for example. This commercial is not only about making money, but also sharing information on proper hygiene. Another one is the Fita commercial. This commercial also shares to us that the value, what you give is what you get, is really true in this world. Many commercials have different values that can change our outlook in life.

Above all commercials, my favorite one is the testimonial of Tracy McGrady, a basketball superstar, in his Adidas commercial. He said in his commercial that some people who have the talent in basketball do not finish college because they are absorbed in the NBA right after they graduate in high school. He emphasized that education, above all, is very important. Although he did not say that you must choose education above talent because some people become successful as long as they develop it. He also emphasized that in life you got to make tough decisions just like this one. This commercial is my favorite one because it shows that education is not all the answer in becoming successful because some people did not finish college but still became successful in their live. I like the way he said it because he left the topic of being successful as a decision of whether you prioritize your talent or you prioritize your education. If I were a man who have a talent in basketball and I were somehow confused whether I should pursue this talent of mine, this commercial would help me decide.

Each one of us has a talent that can help us succeed in life. Take Efren Bata “The Magician” Reyes as an example. He did not finish schooling, but we all know that he became rich. He became rich because he developed his talent in billiards. He cut classes just to practice in a billiard hall. By this statement, it can be said that education is not really the answer in becoming rich and successful, because what is education if you do not apply what you learn? Developed talents, I think, are more likely to help a person succeed because they are applied. But I am not saying that talent is better than education, because in using talent as a tool in becoming successful is not a sure thing. Many people who have talents failed because they are unlucky. The same thing with education, it is still lucky go lucky style, but it is more likely to succeed because in a world like this, because the needed job would still require education. But then again, your success is not determined on which tool is better in becoming successful but it is determined through hard work and dedication. Just like what is said on the commercial, which I think is the value, that education and talent are both good tools and that it is only up to the person which tool will he or she use in order to fulfill his or her dream.

Did God Create Evil?

The truthfulness of biblical facts has been argued for so many years in the past. Experts and non-experts have been sharing ideas just to come up to a conclusion that the words said in the bible really happened.

Two years ago, when I was a sophomore, our teacher in social science discussed some parts of the bible in relation to world history. She discussed to us some parts of Genesis, especially on the part when Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. Then, after sometime in our discussion, she asked if God really created evil. She made this our homework and made us explain our stand.

As far as I can remember, my stand on this was that God intentionally created evil. It can be seen in the bible that Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. They ate the apple because the serpent tempted them. From this statement itself, it is quite funny to think that there is a bad element in God’s garden, which we consider as a perfect place. If God did not create evil, then how would you explain the fact that there is an evil element in God’s place? Some people who believe that God did not create evil might say that it was just incidental and just a test for the man and the woman. Okay, then it was just incidental, but how do we define God? God is a very intelligent creature with supernatural powers way beyond we can imagine and can bring life and death. In other words, He is perfect. He can do anything He wishes. This definition is enough to say that God really created evil. When God said to Adam and Eve that they can eat all the fruits in the Garden of Eden except the one in the Tree of Knowledge, it shaped my mind to say that if God is perfect, and can tell what is going to happen in the future, then why did he made the Tree of Knowledge and let the snake get in the Garden of Eden if He already knew that Adam and Eve are going to be tempted. He could have hid the tree or not create it at all. As for the snake, he could have just killed it earlier before it can tempt. But why did God let it happen? Is the Garden of Eden not really intended for us people? All I can say is that I really do not know, but the fact that God can really foresee the future will make you think that he really did. For non-believers, they will say that it was just made in order to test the loyalty of man and woman to God, and that God has no control over them because He gave them Free Will, the greatest power of man. If I were God who has all the powers in the world, why would I permit myself to be limited by some Free Will? I can make everything happen by just one wink. I can make the so-called Free Will null and void and make all things work my way. Whether we like it or not, God really has the power to do this, and if he can do this, it is possible that He can also create evil. For me, God intentionally created evil and I think that He already predicted the fact that if He will create the Tree of Knowledge, man and woman will suffer in a world really intended for them.

The Best Book That I Have Ever Read

Antoine De Saint-Exupéry’s book entitled “The Little Prince” is what I consider my favorite book and the best book that I have ever read because this book shows the kind of world in which the children and adults live. It tells us that there is a big difference in every man and child and that simplicity does make a difference.

I thought that this book was just a book for children with not so many excitements. But in the first part of the story, when the child drew a boa constrictor from a particular book, I was amazed with what his father said. His father said to him that his drawing was just a simple hat. I thought that his drawing was very obvious to all people, but it was not. From there on, I got interested on reading the whole story.

The most significant parts of the story that really dug into my mind are the crashing of the airplane in the Sahara, the making of the sheep, the visit of the little prince to the king, the conversation of the little prince and the fox and the rose in the planet of the little prince.

I consider the crashing of the airplane a significant part because it was the start of a new life and experience for the child who turned into a grown up. When he met the little prince who was then asking for his help in drawing a sheep, I was surprised and intrigued. Why would someone in the middle of the desert, ask for a drawing of a sheep? Should not he be worried on how will he get out of the scorching heat? I do not know if the man also felt this way because I could not remember all the details. The man, I do not know why, drew the sheep as asked by the prince. The prince was not satisfied because the sheep that he drew was more like of a ram. So when the man got irritated, he just made a simple box with holes around it and said that the sheep that the prince needs was inside. I thought that the prince would not like it because it was only a box, but he liked it and said it was perfect. The way the prince said his words was just like a man saying that he or she needs to drink. The part when the man said that the sheep was in the box was the part that made me realized that reasoning is the key element in making the best decisions in life. The sheep is the problem that needs to be solved and the drawing of the sheep is the solution to the problem, but some possible solutions do not work the way that we want them to. So, alternatives must be considered. The time when the man drew the box with holes is the alternative solution to the problem. How can we say that the alternative solution was effective? Well, the prince still got what he wants, which is the sheep, only in a different manner. Even though the sheep was hidden in the box, it was still a sheep, so there is no problem. Actually, it is even better than the first because the first solution might be the cause for another problem since the sheep is more of a ram.

I also considered the visit of the little prince to the planet of the king significant because it talks about logic. When the king said that a person must only require the duty which another person can perform, made me smile. I was amazed on what the king said because this is really the correct thing to do. How can you expect a thing to be done if the doer cannot perform it? Proper reasoning must also be implied in commanding your people. Just like today, the government is telling us to work in order to earn money, but how can we work if there are no vacancies available?

The conversation of the little prince and the fox and the flower in the little prince’s planet shows the value of true friendship. It can be understood that the crying of the fox when the little prince left, shows that loosing a friend is really painful. No man is an island as they say; no one can live without friends and loosing one is just like loosing a part of your life. But friendship does not only mean happiness, sacrifices are always present. Just like in the flower part of the story, the little prince helped the rose in his planet because it demanded to him. Friends, whether we like it or not, will sometimes demand from you. They will ask favors that sometimes hurt your feelings, but it does not mean that your friends do not love you anymore just because of this happening. It is just because man is not perfect and that mistakes always happen. Besides, did your true friends not say sorry to you if they hurt your feelings unintentionally? Of course they did. Who would not? Just like in the story, the flower asked for forgiveness when he made the little prince unhappy.

The Problem of Men and Women is that...

There are a lot of movies that show the never-ending battles of men and women whom we people sometimes call, “The Battle of the Sexes”. The things that I have noticed in these movies are the ones that involve matters concerned with facts of which is which or of which is better. As the movies progressed, I noticed that it is not a matter of being which is which, or being which is better, but it is a matter of their roles in the society. In order to perform their individual roles, they sometimes end up working together and helping each other out. Teamwork is actually very obvious in these to earth inhabitants whether they admit it or not. A very good example to this is their roles in reproduction because it is already a fact that they can only fulfill the duty of reproduction, if one has the other. However, even though they work perfectly together, there are still some aspects that are very disturbing for the same and opposing sex if they start to work together.

Based on what I have seen, heard and experienced, the problem with men is that when they start to work seriously on something, they tend to forget the other things around them and eventually becoming insensitive. Maybe this is due to their so called “mind works” that their mind is really very attentive to something especially when they are dealing with problems. As for me, I think this is also true because I myself sometimes experience this. I also tend to treat the other things around me as nothing until the problem that I am dealing with is solved. Because of this, some close friends of mine sometimes get angry to me and end up saying that this is the “true” side of me. I do not know if all men are like this but majority of the ones I know, like my dad, uncle and cousins, has this kind of characteristic. If this is really true to men, then I guess they must change this character because this might cause greater problems. Another problem with men is that they want the attention of people that are of special value to them to be with them always. They sometimes become very possessive on things and eventually become aggressive to retain possession on the things. At first, I did not believe this claim because it might be some kind of a misconception. But when I personally experienced this, I then knew that men do become possessive sometimes. Becoming possessive is a really big problem because this sometimes gives rise to big problems that sometimes become the root of aggressiveness. When men become aggressive, bad things happen. They will do anything, and I mean anything, just to be satisfied. What is worse is that they can even kill people who will stand as a hindrance in their way, just like in the movies and in reality. Another would be that men sometimes give up easily in life, especially when it comes to family matters and love life. They have a greater tendency to commit suicide and it seems that they cannot put themselves up when they are very down and depressed in life, which is wrong. In life one should stay rational never give up because life is full of ups and downs. Then lastly, I think that men are too secretive when it comes to their personal life, they do not share these things even to their best friends. I do not know for some but my friend has a secret that I knew from others. He did not tell me about it because maybe he does not trust me at all. But personally, I think it is not only the men that have a very disturbing personality. I think the women also have characters that are very disturbing to men also.

According to what I have noticed on my very special friend, the main problem with women is that they not firm and not sure with their decisions. Take my special friend as an example. When it comes to making decisions regarding which one she will choose for this and this, she always has an answer to that. She always has a back up reason on why she chose that kind of answer or decision. But then, after sometime, she will then change her mind and suddenly makes another decision opposite of the first. Comparing her reason on the first and second decisions, her reason on the second is very low compared to the first, which most of the time confuses me. I do not know why her level of reasoning was changed together with her change in decision. This kind of situation always brings me a funny feeling and always makes me smile when I remember a moment similar to this. But seriously, even if it is funny, it should not be like this because this can cause a decrease in the “trust rate” of the people who are relying to you. Let us say, that a girl with this kind of character is the President of the Philippines. How can she gain trust and support from the people if she cannot even decide clearly on simple matters? Do you expect that people will follow her? Of course not! This could be the main reason why the country that she is leading could be turned into ruins. A firm decision therefore is very essential in life because it the way and reason how to survive life. Another problem is that women are sometimes very irritating to the ears. They somehow become very talkative on a matter that is very disturbing to them which is in fact a reasonable one because they tend to let go of the feeling. But then, for me, when they do this, it seems like all hell has broken loose.

Cartoons have become the most entertaining and the most popular shows on earth, attracting both young and adult minds for decades. They provided the people with smiles and laughter that are really helpful because it reduces stress and sadness. They are very common in the television, in video compact discs and in some other multimedia devices. Today, with the help of the Internet, cartoons can now be seen by browsing the web. Cartoons in the web are more interactive and more animated compared to the usual ones in the television. The user can even design her or his cartoon and do the things according to her or his desire. Some websites also offer some games that contain some of the people’s favorite cartoons that are motionless unless the user plays the game. Cartoon really provide happiness and pleasure to people whether in the Internet or in television. Due to the influence of the Internet on the people, these so-called “pleasure and happiness” have gone to the next level.

Happiness and pleasure in the eyes of men are of double meaning to men. It could just be a simple joy experienced by all other people, or an ecstatic feeling concerned with sexual acts. Anime pornography is the recent ditch in the Internet. It is a cartoon-themed pornography that shows the naked parts of a cartoon that are usually seen in x-rated movies. According to some people interviewed in the Jessica Soho Reports, a documentary by GMA television, anime pornography is way better than the usual porn movies done by people because cartoons can be manipulated in accordance to the “best position” that can offer happiness and pleasure. Cartoons that are pornographic are called hentai. These hentais are commonly Japanese cartoons because majority of these have big eyes, which is the trademark of Japanese cartoons. According to the people interviewed, hentais are better than x-rated movies because they get to see what they do not usually see in people having sex. Hentais are not so disgusting compared to the people because they are just like the other cartoons found on television. I know some people who log on the sites that offer this anime smog and I also asked them about the feeling that they feel when they see the naked cartoons. Their answers are also similar to the answers of the ones interviewed in the GMA show. All experienced a different ecstatic feeling. Anime pornography in the Internet is not quite alarming compared to the ones that are in the television.

Anime pornography in the Internet is the most alarming part for me because the television is the most accessible media in the world. I, personally, could not believe that these pornographic cartoons have now infected and infiltrated the 12-inched gadget. This is very alarming for my part because the children can easily access these cartoons by just pressing the channel on their remote controls. The first report on this case was when a child told his mother why the cartoons on this particular cable channel showing nude parts. The mother responded immediately and told Jessica Soho Reports about this happening and immediately informed the MTRCB. According to MTRCB, some of these cartoons can be controlled but not all because a cable channel provides them, and some of these cable channels are not based in the Philippines. The MTRCB admits that they will have a hard time doing this kind of job. I have also known that even though the cable channels are not based in the Philippines, they are recruiting and paying Filipino comic artists big just to make these kinds of cartoons. Some of them are even the makers of the best comics in the Philippines. If there are Filipino comic artists, there are also Filipinos who dub and translate the Japanese saying of the cartoons. Surprisingly, some of these Filipinos are the ones who dub some famous telenovelas in the country. They said that dubbing hentais are easier compared to telenovelas because aside from getting big money, they only get to use their feelings when dubbing. No rehearsals and memorizations, only feelings.

Based on their statements above, it can be said that anime pornography brings good harvests to people who are making these, but on the contrary, it pollutes the minds of children especially on the innocent ones. So I still believe that these “multimedia smog” should be stopped.
